Germany Travel Guide

Germany has both the largest population and largest economy within the European Union. Many German cities were founded by the Romans, Germany was a central region within the Holy Roman Empire, and a number of German cities were a part of the lucrative Hanseatic League which had a trade monopoly over the Baltic. The Protestant Reformation was started here by Martin Luther in 1517, Bismarck united Germany to create the German Empire in 1871, Germany became a republic in 1919, the socialist Nazi party seized control in 1933 and led the world into WW2. Germany was devistated by the war and split between East and West for the next 45 years, the reunification of Germany came about in 1990, and since then Germany has again become one of the most powerful nations in the world.
